What is Obi?
An 'Obi' is a decorative belt essential to the traditional Japanese kimono, blending art, craftsmanship,
and a rich history dating back to the Heian period (794-1185), a time when culture, art, and literature thrived, especially in Kyoto.
Based in Hampton, London, Risa transforms vintage Japanese silk obis, once cherished at ceremonies,
into unique accessories and dresses by hand for those who appreciate refined culture and heritage.

A STORY

Designer & Creator
Due to its ceremonial nature, the kimono is typically reserved for special occasions and may spend most of its time stored on a shelf, resulting in many being damaged and disposed of in Japan.
Recognizing the critical nature of this issue, Risa, a Japanese entrepreneur based in London, created "The Obi, KYOTO" to restore and preserve the beauty of Japanese Kimono culture.
This initiative aims to make kimonos more accessible for daily wear without addition or subtractions, integrating them into people's everyday lives and making people feel special and unique.
